QUEENS, NY— The 7th annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival welcomed over 15,000 guests this past Sunday July 23rd. Patrons from all around New York, the tri-state area and beyond came out to Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, NY to enjoy a full day of the “jerk experience” from a variety of vendors, a delightful culinary pavilion, cultural and mainstage performances, a fun Kidz Zone area and an array of giveaways from a variety of sponsors. Adding to the good vibes of the day, the rain held up despite a predicted storm, making the weather as pleasant as the crowd.
The day kicked off with various activations at the Culinary Pavilion. Hosted by Celebrity Chef Irie Spice of the critically acclaimed television series, “Taste the Islands with Chef Irie” and Food Network’s ‘Cutthroat Kitchen’ and New York’s BB King’s and Highland Ballroom’s Executive Chef Wenford Patrick Simpson, the Cook-Off tent was on fire. The very impressive line-up of talented Chefs participated in friendly banter amongst themselves and the engaged spectators.

Queens, NY – The organizers of this year’s Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival are excited about the potential contest between New York’s Mayor, Bill de Blasio and Jamaica’s former Miss World and Member of Parliament, Lisa Hanna. The two could meet in the fiercely contested Celebrity Quick-Fire Challenge at the 7th Annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival, scheduled for Sunday, July 23rd at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens.
Mayor de Blasio has emerged twice, as the victor, beating Kaci Fennell, Miss Jamaica Universe 2014 and actor Leon from the movie Cool Runnings. The Mayor has indicated that he plans to return this year to compete against Lisa Hanna and defend his title.
QUEENS, NY July 17, 2016—Organizers of the 7th Annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival in New York are ensuring that patrons will enjoy a memorable day with a culinary, musical and cultural feast like no other. The event, slated for Sunday, July 23 at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, will see an array of performers on the Cultural stage before the musical headliners on the Main Stage close out this all-encompassing day of food, fun and fantastic entertainment!
Festival director Abdul Muhsin is fired up about this year’s Main Stage lineup, as the artists were selected, not just for their musical prowess, but for the different eras of uniquely Jamaican music that they represent. Muhsin says, “We are espousing a part of our culture that’s endemic and that we share with the world—our food, our music and our culture. Everybody loves jerk, everybody loves reggae and everybody loves Morgan Heritage, Alison Hinds, Konshens and Barrington Levy.”

On Saturday June 3rd, 2017, The Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival held their Taste of Jerk Kick-Off event at the VP Records retail Store in Jamaica Queens. The annual occasion serves as a way to notify the press of the various performers, food vendors and entertainment they can expect at the festival taking place Sunday July 23rd at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens from 12-8pm. The press conference and food competition was held from 12-2pm, while the public participated in the festivities which included a live remote by Irie Jam Radio, from 2-5pm.
2017 Festival Participating vendors Yardie’s, Food R Us, Natwerks, Freckles Juice Bar and Miller Health & Nutrition sampled their specialties to an eager group of media and festival supporters. The vendors then took part in a food competition which was judged by TV Host & Celebrity Chef Wenford Patrick Simpson, of B.B. King. The winning restaurant, Yardie’s took home the festival’s famous Dutch Pot Trophy.

After a successful debut on Pennsylvania Avenue in 2016, the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival returns to a larger space on the Festival Lawn at RFK Stadium (Lot 6)., in Washington, DC. Celebrating June as Caribbean American Heritage Month, the Festival promises more food, more music and more fun.
This past weekend VP Records hosted ‘A Taste of Jerk” the kick-off party for the upcoming Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival in New York. For those who don’t know the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival is the largest Caribbean food festival in the USA. This year will be the 6th year and the lineup of food and performances is amazing.
The kick off party, hosted at the VP Records retail store in Jamaica, Queens gave the people a small taste both literally and figuratively of what they could expect from the full festival. VP brought in some of the best vendors to offer food for the crowd and celebrity Chef Brandon Walker was on hand to meet with fans and taste some of this year’s contenders.
After the food was eaten it was time for the music. VP’s regular DJs were on had and spinning along with a live feed from Irie Jam Radio. In regular VP fashion the music was amazing and the celebrity guests began dropping in immediately. The first person on the scene was Romain Virgo who had come straight from the airport. Romain Virgo was playing later that night at BB Kings in NYC and gave the fans a little taste with a few minutes on the mic.
